PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Unit 108 Minutes

   

   

1. Call to Order by President Trish at 6:20 p.m.

2. Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, and the ALA Preamble were conducted at our joint meeting with the Legion.

3. Roll Call:

4. Twelve members attended. A Quorum was present.

5. Introduction of Guests: Lisa Young, District 8 ALA President, and Debra "De De" Dexter, AZ Dept. Chaplain.

6. District President comments: Reports are due on May 1, 2026. The next convention is in Chandler, and the next District 8 meeting is May 9, 2026, at Post 40 in Chino Valley.

AZ Dept. Chaplain comments: The ALA National President will be in Tucson Saturday, at 6:00 p.m.

7. Reading/Approval of February 10, 2026, minutes, which were sent via email on February 16, 2026.

Ø Correction/Addition: Date on Minutes to be corrected.

Ø Sally moved, and Cindy seconded, to accept the February 2026 minutes. Motion unanimously approved.

8. Memorial for Deceased Member: N/A

9. Reports

a. President: Trish reported the following:

i. Record your volunteer hours. Service to Veterans: 10 hours per week for in-home caregiving. Five hours per week for out-of-home caregiving.

ii. Please bring your volunteer hours (Community Service and Service to Veterans) records, up to and including March 31, 2026, to the April meeting, or email me so they can be rolled into the Annual Reports and submitted for individual awards. Chaplain, membership, community service, historian, and public affairs have their own report – please complete and turn it in to me by April 20. Have a narrative for an award? Please share with me by April 20, prior to submitting.

b. Vice President: No report.

c. Treasurer: Pam reported on the general fund account, CD, total cash assets, and transactions. General Fund: $5,485.12 CD: $2,352.54 Total Cash Assets: $7,837.66

Ø Sandy moved, and Sally seconded, to accept the Treasurer’s Report, approved unanimously, subject to audit.

d. Membership: Chairman Juanita was excused. No report.

e. Historian: Kathy was excused. No report.

f. Publicity: Kathy was excused. No report.

g. Sunshine: Cindy reported that year-to-date, nine birthday cards, two get-well cards, and one sympathy card have been sent.

h. Creative Arts: Sally had no report.

i. Girls State: Sally reported that 19 girls applied at Bradshaw Mountain High School. Interviews were held on Friday, February 13, 2026. Two girls were chosen along with two alternates. Ella Jones and Layla Ferrell were selected to attend 2026 Girls State Sally is still requesting that someone volunteer to help her with Girls State.

j. Scholarship: Diane reported that applications went out and should be coming in after spring break.

10. Poppies: Diane reported our poppy program is scheduled for May 15 & 16 and was approved by Suzanne D. at VFWA.

11. Reading Correspondence: No report.

12. Old Business

a. Fundraising

i. Raffle funds from tonight brought in $45.

ii. Fry’s Community Rewards: Awaiting quarterly rewards next month.

iii. The Panera Bread fundraiser is on March 13.

iv. Bahama Buck’s Original Shaved Ice Company: Trish has not yet been able to connect with the manager.

v. Diane reported that Ace Hardware will have a round-up for us in April.

vi. Other restaurants:

Lynn contacted the following:

· Papa Murphy’s: The manager did not know any details. Someone is supposed to call her back.

· Panda Express: 20% for all day; looking to schedule in May. They will have as many days as we want.

· Raising Cane’s: Lynn will check with them for an April date. It will all be online.

· Dutch Bros.: They will only allow evening fundraisers. Cindy will contact Red Robin.

b. Standing Rules will be signed at the April meeting, as Juanita was not present.

c. National Salute to Veterans at VA. Need to reschedule the CLC $2 bill distribution. Trish was able to take care of the Domiciliary.

d. The American Legion birthday cake was purchased for tonight’s potluck.

13. New Business

a. Annual reports to the department. Chaplain, membership, community service, historian, and public affairs have their own reports. Please complete reports and get them to me by April 20. Have a narrative for an award? Please share with me by April 20.

b. The yard sale will be held on Thursday, May 7 and Friday, May 8. The dates have been changed because both Prescott Valley Days and the District 8 meeting are on Saturday, May 9.

c. Nominations were held. Diane was nominated for Vice President but declined the nomination. Lynn, Sally, and Cindy were all nominated for President, but all declined. Trish asked if the following officers would remain in their positions: Secretary – no; Treasurer – yes; Sgt. at arms – no.

14. Announcements/Good of the order:

· Yavapai College will have a food giveaway on March 27, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

· Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce will have free shredding on May 15, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. It is not on-site shredding, but you can drop off documents.

· Trish handed out ALA handbooks.

15. The next meeting is April 14, 2026.
